Into
The New Millennium |
|
1999
was a special year for collectors of David
Winter Cottages for two reasons:
Firstly
it was the 20th anniversary of the meeting
of John Hine and David Winter and so the beginning
of David's career of sculpturing miniature
cottages.
To
commemorate this special event the limited
time piece Bridgewater was released
for purchase only during 1999. Depicting a
bridge spanning the 20 years with the flow
of the stream representing the movement of
time. This piece is only two, that have been
made so far, that has David himself depicted
on it. The first being Coal Shed, the
1989 Collectors Guild piece.
The
second thing which made this year special
for collectors was that it was the end of
the Millennium and that David had decided
to create a fantastic piece The Millennium
at Horseshoe Bay to commemorate this once
in a lifetime event.
Limited
to just 2,000 pieces (no other edition size
could have been chosen) The Millennium
at Horseshoe Bay is for many proof, if
any ever was needed, that David's skill at
producing original and inventive pieces has
not been spoilt by the passage of time nor
dented by the many changes he has had to endure.
He is still able to bring to collectors the
world over pieces of artwork which can be
treasured for many generations to come.
Collecting
David Winter Cottages was back and David was
again creating some of his best pieces but
after surviving the upsets in 1996/97 there
was always the thought at the back of the
mind "could it happen again?" And
a worrying trend was starting to set in. Less
and less shops were stocking David's pieces
and more e-mails were arriving from collectors
wanting to sell their cottages. |
